Høng Costume
from "Danske Folke Dragter" by Nanna Gandil, 1972
The Høng costume, shown above, is made of woolen red checked fabric. At some point, Høng's woven aprons were abandoned for silk aprons.
The Høng costume has two distinctive hallmarks:
a. Its inventive sleeve, with pleats, gathers, decorative ribbons and silk fringes.
b. Its wide lace headgear ("korsklæde") made of lace from the Sønderjylland capital of lace-making, Tønder ("Tønderknippling"). No region in Denmark has such a beautiful and large piece of lace incoporated into its costume as Høng.
In many aspects, the Høng costume appears similar to that of Møn Island.
